Draft Goals

Our next meeting for the IMCP Advanced Manufacturing Strategy will be held on Thursday July 31st from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Gordon County Agricultural Service Center (auditorium). We know everyone is busy, so we’ll make this a working lunch. Boxed lunches will be provided. The purpose of this meeting is to break into our four working groups: 1) workforce training and education, 2) infrastructure, 3) research, innovation & sustainability, and 4) partnerships, and delve deeper into the strategies presented at our July 7th meeting. We will be working from the draft goals presented at the last meeting. Feel free to contact Leigh Hopkins with Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute (leigh.hopkins(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)innovate.gatech.edu) with any questions in the meantime or visit the NWGRC Advanced Manufacturing Strategy project page, and we look forward to seeing you on the 11th!

Northwest Georgia Region and Tennessee Valley Recognized as Promising Manufacturing Communities in National IMCP Competition

May 2014

WASHINGTON, May 28, 2014—U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today announced the first 12 communities that will be designated “Manufacturing Communities” as part of the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP) initiative. The Northwest Georgia region and the Tennessee Valley were two of the communities designated.

The U.S. Department of Commerce–led program is designed to accelerate the resurgence of manufacturing in communities nationwide by supporting the development of long-term economic development strategies that help communities attract and expand private investment in the manufacturing sector and increase international trade and exports.

Northwest Georgia Regional Manufacturing Team:

Please plan to attend the Northwest Georgia Regional Manufacturing Strategy Vision and Mission workshop, May 29, 2014 from 10 am-noon.  We’ll meet at the Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy, 2300 Maddox Chapel Rd, Dalton, GA 30721,  in the Multipurpose Room.  Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute will lead the Team in developing a mission and vision for the Regional Manufacturing Strategy.  This will be an interactive workshop, designed to come to consensus about the direction of advanced manufacturing in the region– everyone’s input will craft the mission and vision.

Your participation on May 29th is  critical!  The regional mission and vision will determine those next steps needed to make lasting improvements in sustainability, workforce development, and innovation, areas most relevant to the floor-covering industry.
